Vietnamese Model Faces Backlash For ‘Offensive’ Dress At Cannes 2019
When Vietnamese model Ngoc Trinh arrived at Cannes 2019, she did not expect her home country to react so strongly to her dress.
Her beaded, high-slit beaded and backless dress, paired with glittering black heels didn’t go down too well with the Vietnamese government.
“She is not an artist that the ministry sent to the event. Her outfit was improper, offensive and has caused public outrage,” stated Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien.
“She is not an artist that the ministry sent to the event. Her outfit was improper, offensive and has caused public outrage.” – Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The ministry has launched an investigation against the model for breaking the country’s strict decency laws, which could eventually lead to a heavy fine for Ngoc Trinh.
Skimpy clothing is nothing new at the red carpet, and it’s not the first time the Vietnamese model has been decked out in a skimpy outfit. However, the ministry may have felt that Ngoc Trinh went a step too far by taking her outfit to the international spotlight at Cannes 2019.
Netizens took to the model’s Instagram account and left comments about her outfit.
Thankfully for Ngoc Trinh, most of her fans were fully supportive of her outfit, and it’s not hard to see why because the model is actually stunning.
