The Problem With Forbes Calling Kylie A ‘Self-Made’ Billionaire

Kylie Jenner made headlines this week after Forbes named the beauty mogul as the youngest ‘self-made’ billionaire! The announcement created a huge debate with some criticizing Forbes for declaring the 21-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashian star as ‘self-made’.

You see, the real problem is not because Kylie Jenner became a billionaire, people are just having an issue with Kylie Jenner being labeled as ‘self-made’.

Even wasn’t having it!

Coming from a background of wealthy families and most likely gotten a part of her share from being on the reality shows, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Life of Kylie, it’s hard to believe that Kylie Jenner became who she is today unaided.

But here’s what Kylie has to say about the whole issue. She defended the self-made title in an interview with Paper Magazine saying, “What I’m trying to say is I did have a platform, but none of my money is inherited.” She also added that her parents, Kris and Caitlyn Jenner had cut off her allowance at the age of 15 and told her to start making her own fortune.

Sure, part of her billion dollar fortune came from Kylie Cosmetics in which she started in 2015 but with intensity of social media in today’s world, it’s safe to say, we agree that she did have a platform to build her billion dollar empire.

While we may not truly know whether she did in fact “NOT inherit any monetary funds from her family”, we can absolutely say that she is smart in utilizing the online world that was founded by other billionaires!

Let’s not forget that back in 2015, she was the #1 most-viewed account on Snapchat and the top ten most-followed on Instagram with 30.2 million followers. These apps that she’s socially active on are all made by billionaires. Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey are all billionaires younger than 45. According to Hopper HQ, a social media schedule, each of Kylie’s Instagram posts is worth about $1 Million!

Well, Kylie Jenner is certainly defining the meaning of self-made and newsflash — despite all the thrash-talk from peeps, she’s still the one with a billion dollar wallet. Spread love, not hate!
