The Best Dressed (Virtual) Celebrity Looks For The BET Awards 2020 You May Have Missed
COVID-19 is not stopping the 20th BET Awards. Marking the ceremony’s 20th anniversary, the awards were held on Sunday and done virtually. While also honouring the Black Lives Matter movement, the BET Awards took the time to celebrate the achievements of Black entertainers on television as were as those in movies, sports and music. Alongside host, Amanda Seales, awards were given to Roddy Ricch (Album of the Year), Lizzo (Best Female R&B/Pop Artist), DaBaby (Best Male Hip Hop Artist) and more. Even former First Lady Michelle Obama made a special ‘appearance’. a
And of course, as with any award ceremony, there were so many moments in fashion that need to be recognised! Despite it being a virtual ceremony, these celebs pulled out all the stops to celebrate and we 👏 are 👏 living. Here are some of the best dressed moments from 2020’s BET Awards:
Alicia Keys’s said she “put something very special together for ya’ll” but no one was ready for this. The multi-award-winning singer-songwriter performed a piece with lyrics pertaining to police violence against Black people as she paid tribute to George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor with her rendition of ‘A Perfect Way To Die’. The singer paired her strong words with an equally strong, Matrix-like look. Clad in leather, Keys accompanied her minimalist style with hoop earrings and a simple, low ponytail.
The Queen of Soul stunned in a gown by Reem Acra during her performance of “Young, Gifted, and Black”. The gifted actress and singer highlighted the jewelled collar of the gown with an out-of-this-world updo made to look as if her locks were crowning her. Similar to Key’s, Hudson opted for a more muted makeup look, with matching green eyeliner and soft, peachy lipstick.
Chloe X Halle
These sisters prove time and time again that matching outfits with your sibling doesn’t always have to be embarrassing. In keeping with their signature styles, Chloe and Halle showed up in two different outfits. The ‘Ungodly Hour’ pair turned up the heat in sexy black latex pieces before contrasting the looks with separate, reflective athleisure outfits. The powerhouse duo performed ‘Ungodly Hour’ and ‘Forgive Me’ in these outfits, all of which were styled by Zerina Akers (who is also Beyoncé’s stylist) and designed by TLZ L’FEMME.
Keeping it caszh’ and uber-chic was is ‘Blackish’ star Marsai Martin. Opting for a bright yellow dress, Martin brought a whole lot of fun and youth to the ceremony. While floating around in her pool, the star was awarded ‘Young Stars Award’.
Queen Bey. Just. What can we say about her rare appearance other than… she absolutely slayed without seeming to even try. Beyoncé donned a crystal choker and a strapless dress while accepting the Humanitarian Award from Michele Obama. To add to that monumental achievement, Beyoncé also won the HER Award for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ featuring daughter Blue Ivy, making her the youngest BET winner in history.
Which was your fave look of the night? We can’t decide because, let’s be honest, all the attendees were dressed to the 9s!
