The 20 Most Fashionable Men In Met Gala Red Carpet History
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala aka #MetGala might be the most awaited and most-watched red carpet ceremony around the world—that, until the pandemic hits 2020, now they have no choice but to shut down the most exclusive and expensive Hollywood’s costume party.
In earlier years, the event was more of a traditional evening gala, where men adhered to an especially conventional dress code—playing it safe and super boring—where they mostly opted for classic black and white tuxedos.
But it all changed in the year 2012, when New York’s fashion designer Marc Jacobs broke the barrier and showed up to the MET wearing lace dress vy Comme des Garçons over boxer shorts.
“I just didn’t wanna wear a tuxedo and be boring’’
And right after that controversy—but make it fashion—look, male stars who are invited to the MET began to adopt a more free-wheeling spirit. As Jacobs said, “boring” was no longer acceptable. Out went the suits, in came the outré looks.
