Start Organising, Because A Messy Mind Is The Reason Why Your Life Is So Cluttered
Growing up, my mom always tells me to clean up my hellhole of a bedroom (there wasn’t even any space left for me to walk), because, in her words, “this is why your life is such a mess.” I mean, ouch. It’s a mess that I can live with okay. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about. However, as soon as I started to maintain the cleanliness of my room, it dawned on me. Boy, why didn’t I do this sooner? I do feel a lot less cluttered.
Here’s the thing: spaces absolutely affect people’s moods. Just look at those cafes you usually frequent at — the minimal interior design makes a nice environment for you and your friends to ‘chill’ there. The same goes for our life. We have to start organising or it will always be cluttered.
This may be easier said than done, but you have to at least try. Heck, I am the worst person when it comes to organizing things, let alone – life. But everything takes time, and with this list, you and I can do this together.
Create a checklist
Make a new to-do list every day based on the previous day’s list. If you’re not so keen on detailing everything, focus on the big, important keywords that your future self will thank you for.
Look at it every day and cross off what you’ve completed. Not only will this help you be in control of the day, but it will also make you feel more productive every time you’ve crossed off an item from the list.
Make a vision board
Vision boards are great for you to take your life to where you want it to lead. It helps to set a goal, be it long term or short term. Envision where you’d like to see yourself five years from now, or maybe even create a one year plan.
Perhaps it’s getting your own place, travelling, a lifestyle change, a career upgrade, whatever you want to achieve – it’s got to be on the vision board. This acts as a reminder of where you want to be and what you aspire to be.
Ah, something all of us can relate to! There are days where we feel like this can be done another day, another time. But before you know it, everything’s been piled up and it’s a mess that you don’t even know where to start.
Here’s where the to-do checklist comes in. If it’s on the list, do it – no matter how hard or lazy you feel. Trust me you’ll feel a lot better after crossing it off your to-do list. That means, you don’t have to worry about it anymore!
Check Your Bank Balance Regularly
I have this bad habit of not checking my account balance every time I withdraw cash. At the back of my head, I’m afraid of checking my account balance. What if it’s not the amount I expected to see? But that’s exactly what you need to do. Keep an account book of how much your bills costs, expenses for food and commute, how much you can spend to treat yourself.
Make sure you check my bank account regularly, just so you know that you’re not spending too much according to your budget. Better to face the reality than realising that your account balance is zero. Besides, it will also give you a huge boost every time you see the amount of money you have saved, which makes you want to save even more!
Have a routine
Whenever I come in to work, it’s gonna be chaotic. I don’t really have a routine, and I’d like to think that I’ve done everything that I should. However, what if I haven’t been doing my best? That’s why having a routine is great. It helps to create structure in our lives, makes us more efficient, and gives us more ‘me time’.
You might not find the best routine instantly but hey, good things takes time. It could take a while for you to discover what works best but once you’ve found your own momentum, you’ll be on your way to conquer life. The most important is that you stick to it. Practice makes perfect!
