‘Spectrophilia’ Is When Someone Is Sexually Attracted To Ghosts

On Halloween week, we simply have to tell you about this spooky sex thing called spectrophilia a.k.a. when a person is sexually attracted to ghosts.

This attraction is real, people! How can you explain the film Ghost starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, in which the latter portrayed the (good looking) entity?

We can’t really deny people’s sexual attraction, because it certainly seems quite common, although spooky. Let’s break down spectrophilia together, shall we?

First of all, why?

Spectrophilia refers to humans who are attracted to ghosts, but it also has a second meaning. It also means being sexually attracted to objects seen in a mirror, both of which refer to objects or beings who aren’t really there in the first place.

Actual sex with ghosts has not been scientifically proven. Scientists believe that ‘ghost sex’ happens because our brains are super susceptible to hallucinations just before we fall asleep. But a British woman by the name of Amethyst Realm seems to have found her true love in spirit. Maybe they’re just in love, y’know. According to the New York Post, Amethyst said:

“Orgasms I have with my spirit lovers have been way more satisfying than any I’ve had with ordinary men.”

So, now we know. Maybe ordinary men didn’t cut it for her. We just hope she doesn’t get ghosted, literally.

Celebrities who have had spectrophilia encounters

According to the Huffington Post, singer-songwriter Ke$ha mentioned that her song “Supernatural” is about her sexual encounters with a ghost. She said:

“It’s about experiences with the supernatural, but in a sexy way. I don’t know his name! He was a ghost!”

Yep, you heard her. Charlie’s Angel Lucy Liu was not spared from sexy spiritual encounters either. In 1999, while taking a nap, Lucy said that was when she felt him.

“It was sheer bliss. I felt everything. I climaxed. And then he floated away.”

Of course, the latest Korean dramas like Hotel Del LunaGoblin, and A Korean Odyssey have normalized the appearance of ghosts and humans living together. We’re not opposed to Lee Dong Wook’s pale good looks either (yes, we know his character is technically a Grim Reaper, but we added him to this list for ghostly glam points).

Are ghosts sexually attracted to humans?

The real question! You’ve probably heard of the Orang Minyak, an oily supernatural being who abducts young women. Or Orang Bunian, spiritual beings in the jungle that can bring humans to an entirely different realm if we’re not careful.

Meanwhile, medieval legends have tales of the Incubus and Succubus, which are beings that invade human bodies and have sex with them. So maybe, ghosts could be sexually attracted to humans too. We’ll never know the real answer, and perhaps it’s for the better.
