‘Milk Tea Hair’ Is The Newest Hair Trend For Bubble Tea Lovers

Bubble tea lovers, even if you didn’t know it, your greatest hair wish has been duly granted by the bubble tea gods.

Dubbed as ‘Milk tea hair’ under the hashtag #milkteahair, girls in Singapore and Japan have been asking for this hair colour named after their favourite beverage.

‘Milk tea hair’ encompasses a gorgeous, creamy shade of brown or ashy blonde that’s neither too dark nor too light, kind of like the one you’d get when mixing milk and tea together. If you want to get the bubble option, simply ask a stylist to darken the ends of your hair in a reverse ombre.

Some hairstylists have styled girls who wanted a more ombre version of milk tea hair, or those who opted for a neutral balayage mix of colours.

To achieve this look, Florida-based colourist Oliva Smalley has a few tips for the average milk tea hair newbie.

You want to stress that you’re looking for a colour melt look that starts more warm-toned at the root but transitions to ash on the ends. The key here is making sure there is a complete elimination of gold on those lighter ends while maintaining gold on the roots.”

Milk tea can mean different colours to different people, so it’s important to pick one that matches your skin undertone to achieve the best look. Go for the hair tone that’s the opposite from your skin’s undertone. So, if you’re a girl with warm skin tones, pick a milk tea hue that’s cool to complement your skin tone.

Plus, since Asian hair is usually dark, you may need to bleach those locks to get to the colour that you want, but don’t worry about it because there are ways to care for bleached hair. Hey, anything for milk tea hair, am I right?
