#MEGXIT Update: Meghan & Harry Fired 15 Staff From Buckingham Palace
In a sudden turn of #Megxit-related events, Meghan & Harry have laid off 15 of their staff from Buckingham Palace, a signal that the couple probably won’t be returning to the UK any time soon.
According to the Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released members of their team in January after they announced that they were stepping down from their roles as senior royals.
While one or two staff of Meghan and Harry may be absorbed back to work with other members of the royal family, the others are currently busy negotiating their severance packages.
A source from inside the palace mentioned:
“While the details are still being finalized and efforts are being made to redeploy people within the royal household, unfortunately, there will be some redundancies.”
Among those who lost their jobs is the couple’s newly-appointed private secretary, Fiona Mcilwham (although it’s reported that she is quite likely to find another role within the palace), and head of communications Sara Latham.
Harry’s long-standing programme co-ordinator Clara Loughran, who handed Meghan’s bouquet to her during the wedding, will also leave the palace.
Fortunately, many of the staff seemed to understand and have accepted their fate. The same source mentioned:
“The Duke and Duchess have a small team, less than 15 people. The team are very loyal to the Sussexes and understand and respect the decision they have taken.”
At the moment, the team is helping her Royal Highness to finalize the last of her engagements.
The closing of their UK office is the couple’s last effort to depart from Buckingham Palace and re-establish their lives with little Archie in Canada.
