Malaysia Fashion Week Brings A Touch Of Tradition To Its 2018 Showcase

Last weekend was huge for fashion lovers, as the largest lifestyle trade event in this country, Malaysia Fashion Week, showcased various new garment styles that are to die for. The event was held was from 19th to 25th November 2018, at Publika in Kuala Lumpur, but the fashion runway only started from Friday onwards.

This year’s installment featured the theme of “61 years of Malaysia” which combined fashion, art, and beauty with both local and international designers.

Among designers present were Illiza Ho, Stylo Annexe, Carro, AG Lifestyle, Dodjie Batu, Bon Zainal and of course, Malaysia’s world-renowned shoe couturier, Datuk Professor (Dr) Jimmy Choo who is also the honorary advisor of Malaysia Fashion Week & Stylo Asia Fashion Week. If you’ve missed out on the event, here are some of the highlights at Malaysia Fashion Week:

Local Prints Meet Western Silhouettes

Traditional inspired fabric is the new ‘it’ in fashion. Designers like Bon Zainal Harun and Amar Amran totally elevated these type of prints with a modern twist. We simply love how cool the garments look on both males and females. Here are a few of the traditional looks.

Sporty Athleisure

We all know athleisure is the new way to dress — easy, comfortable, stylish — which allows you to hit the gym straight from work, or from the cafe to the gym. However, we are a little disappointed with the designs showcased at Malaysia Fashion Week. The collection seems a bit too basic and.. been there done that, so perhaps, more effort next time?

Handbag Couture

Let’s not forget every fashionista’s favourite accessories to complete any outfit look — a statement handbag. This year, Illiza Ho, who is Jimmy Choo’s protege has got you covered with her collection. She also took home the award for Best Accessories Designer of the Year 2018.

The Fashionable Raincoat Look

Topshop has done it, Forever 21 too and now, we have a local designer who’ve incorporated the style into various elements of see through material. Not sure if Malaysians are ready to embrace the look yet, but this is definitely a fashionable way to keep your outfit dry from the rain.

Cool kids on the block

How adorable are these fashionable kids? They look straight out of Paris Fashion Week, while the blue gown is perfect for a princess party!
