#LikelyTries: RM424 Worth Of Drunk Elephant Products — & This My Honest Opinion

Welcome to Likely Tries, where we put internet hyped products, trends, experiences and more to the test. Time for a reality check!

Texas-based brand, Drunk Elephant was the top growing skincare brand in the US in 2016 and makes up for 50% of the top 10 skin-care best-sellers – heck, even Vanessa Hudgens, Christina Ricci and Hannah Bronfman have sworn by it. The hype is from the fact that Drunk Elephant products are free from essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances/dyes and more. According to their website, “Drunk Elephant is committed to using only ingredients that directly benefit your skin’s health or support the integrity and effectiveness of their formulations.”

And in 2019, Drunk Elephant entered Malaysian shores to bless us with their skincare products.  Recently, the brand came up with a kit described as “everything you need to take a clean break from ingredients we believe are at the root of an unhappy complexion—one you feel you have to cover up” and – mmmkaaay – who doesn’t want flawless skin? The kit contains 7 products:

  • Beste no. 9 jelly cleanser 30 ml / 1 fl oz
  • C-firma day serum 15 ml / .5 fl oz
  • Umbra sheer physical daily defense spf 30 15 ml / .5 fl oz
  • T.L.C. framboos glycolic night serum 15 ml / .5 fl oz
  • F-balm electrolyte waterfacial 15 ml / .5 fl oz
  • Lala retro™ whipped cream 15 ml / .5 fl oz
  • D-bronzi™ anti-pollution sunshine drops bonus sample packette

Now, I have really sensitive, dehydrated skin. It scars easily and I’m always packing on makeup to cover up for these flaws. I’ve always been the ‘makeup over skincare’ kind of person (and it hasn’t worked out so well for me, HAHA) so I’m testing out the whole kit for two weeks to see how my skin reacts to it and whether the product does what it says it does. What I am also looking out for is how it smells (because I don’t like super strong scents) and how it feels on my skin.

First, CLEANSE with the Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser…

“An innovative jelly cleanser that removes all traces of makeup, excess oil, pollution, and any other grime from the day.”

Does It Do What It Says It Does?

Okay, so, I don’t know if it’s the tube that comes in this set or if this is just me, but I ended up wasting some of the product because – what I didn’t know was that – the cap has a hole on it and you’re meant to twist it slightly to create a gap for the product to seep out. The product feels kind of like you’re using a cleanser that has a bit of oil in it as well. It doesn’t create bubbles (can you see how minimal the foamin is?) so it feels like you’re rubbing off the dirt with a concentrate. My skin feels so smooth after, almost like there is a layer of air, making it feel more airbrushed.

Next, the C-Firma™ Day Serum…

“A revolutionary vitamin C serum packed with a powerful antioxidant complex of l-ascorbic and ferulic acids to reveal a brighter, firmer, and more even-looking complexion.”

The serum is orange! A small amount does wonders and is enough for full coverage. I squeeze about two to three drops. It takes a few minutes for the product to seep into my skin and afterwards, leaves a sort of sticky base for my foundation. Afterwards, my skin feels hydrated and it glows. It hasn’t been that long but I can see my skin tone starting to even out. And the best part? It doesn’t cause my skin to burn!

Last in the daytime skincare routine, would be the Umbra Sheer ™ Physical Daily Defense SPF 30 High Protection…

“This tinted, physical sunscreen delivers UVA/UVB protection. It minimizes the appearance of photoaging for a more youthful-looking complexion.”

Does It Do What It Says It Does?

Honestly, I do see that my face is not as red as it can be without some sort of protection. It does make me look slightly paler but it also brightens my skin at the same time.

And just before bed, the T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum…

“A high-tech AHA/BHA gel that resurfaces dull, congested skin by gently lifting away dead skin cells.”

Does It Do What It Says It Does?

For one, it seeps into the skin quite fast. It’s not sticky and my skin is showing no signs of irritation. One pro that I was not expecting was the fact that it helps with the absorption of the other products that I layered on top, like my moisturiser. The results show almost instantly – my skin texture improves the day after. It feels smoother and the tiny bumps I would get around my nose went away.

This is where I try to variate my routine between the Lala Retro™ Whipped Cream and the F-Balm™ Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask –

7 out of the 14 nights, I used the Lala Retro™ Whipped Cream …

“This multifaceted rescue cream, infused with six whipped African oils and plant ceramide complex, provides replenishing barrier support by reinforcing skin’s acid mantle and defending against the effects of everyday stressors.”

Does It Do What It Says It Does?

You can use this either in the morning or night but I found that it was better to use it at night as it’s very nourishing and it really keeps my skin hydrated (especially while sleeping under the aircon). The moisturiser is thick and luxurious but absorbs into the skin easily – heck, it almost melts into your skin. A great plus – it doesn’t feel greasy!

7 out of the 14 nights I let my skin rejuvenate with the  F-Balm™ Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask…

“This cooling, quenching overnight mask plumps and restores with an electrolyte cocktail while helping to strengthen the skin’s acid mantle. F-Balm™ effectively rehydrates hungover, overly-parched skin, making it soft and supple.”

Does It Do What It Says It Does?

Water-based products are good for oily skin and I found that this was both light and non-greasy. And yet, my skin feels hydrated, less oily and I can see a reduction in the redness around my nose.

As for their scent, because none of the products contains perfumes, the products all have a mild, creamy scent.

Are Drunk Elephant products worth it? Hell yeah! These 6 products, in this order, may bring you to new heights of skincare excellence! Hopefully, we’ve been able to answer your questions and you can snag your own kit and the individual products at Sephora for RM424.00.
