Jeffree Star Is “Tired Of Seeing Influencer Brand Trips”

Beauty gurus may spill tea every now and then, but they tend to make a point when speaking up about the industry. Like that time James Charles voiced out about Wet n’ Wild copying his signature Morphe palette.

This time, makeup mogul and OG beauty guru Jeffree Star has spoken up, or rather, Tweeted, about one particular marketing trend among makeup brands and influencers:

“Dear makeup brands, everyone including me is tired of seeing influencer brand trips.”

What are these “influencer brand trips”?

Influencer brand trips have been floating around Instagram ever since brands discovered the power of the photo-sharing platform’s influence. According to Later, these brand-funded trips allow the brand to tap into the influencer’s following, thus increasing awareness and engagement.

This marketing strategy allows influencers with millions of followers to go on a vacation (preferably in an exotic island), and promote the brand’s items. This is different from beauty competitions where winners receive a getaway trip as a prize, some of these influencers are paid to go on vacation.

No shade, but this strategy may not work for so long any more, as Jeffree Star himself said:

“You shouldn’t need to fly 45 people out to a foreign country to sell some mascara.”

Jeffree Star isn’t the only one tired of seeing influencer brand trips

As it turns out, consumers are getting increasingly turned-off by influencer brand trips too. We wouldn’t blame them though. CEO of Makeup Geek Cosmetics, Marlena Stell had to agree with Jeffree Star.

But there is an alternative to influencer brand trips

Of course, Twitter users were quick to suggest alternatives, such as a vacation for fans or makeup artists of the brand.

Jeffree Star is pretty pleased with the idea, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope for a trip to Calabasas!
