Jealous Of Your Colleague? Good, Now You Can Be Better

It’s common to find yourself envious of a colleague or someone from your industry in terms of career. You see your colleague, scoring that big project and you can’t help but feel a little green monster of that person.

We’re not going to tell you to stop being jealous, in fact – BE. JEALOUS. It’s good for you! According to the book,  No Hard Feelings: The Secret Power of Embracing Emotions at Workthe authors, Liz Fosslien and Mollie West-Duffy found that work jealousy can do you some good.

Here’s how!

Is it the respect your colleague gets from peers? Because she’s always in a good mood? Or that everyone does their best to have her back all the time? It’s good to pinpoint what you’re actually jealous of so you know what it is that you desire.

Figure out how to get what you desire

Find out what you have to do so that you gain what you desire. Learn from that person that you feel “jealous” of. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain if you put your ego down. It’s nothing personal alright!

Jealousy also makes you competitive

People who are jealous actually become competitive and this is generally good as a competitive person works harder and smarter and is more motivated to get the work done. All about that healthy competition!
