BREAKING: “Januari” Singer Glenn Fredly Passes Away

Life is short, fleeting and unexpected. As fans mourned the loss of beloved actor, Ashraf Sinclair, we are now faced with the passing of another beloved artist, Glenn Fredly. The Indonesian R&B singer, husband, father, son, songwriter, producer, actor passed on Wednesday night. The popular singer, both in Indonesia and here in Malaysia, passed at around 6PM local time. He was 44-years-old.


The sad news was relayed by fellow singer, Tompi and then reported by Indonesian and Malaysian media. It is reported that Glenn passed away in Rumah Sakit Setia Mitra, Jakarta from meningitis, an inflammation of the tough layer of tissue that surrounds the brain and the spinal cord.

Born Glenn Fredly Deviano Latuihamallo in 1975, Glenn first entered the music industry in 1995 after winning a singing contest, Cipta Pesona Bintang, in Indonesia. He went on to join the band Funk Section before going solo 3 years later in 1998. He leaves behind his wife, Mutia Ayu, with whom he got married to in August of 2019. He was blessed with a daughter in late February this year.



Glenn lists Michael Jackson as his influences, citing Jackson as having inspired him “through his music, his style, his dancing, everything”. He is best known for his 2002 break-up ballad, “Januari”. An outpuring of love for the late singer is taking over Twitter, with fans and celebrities alike sharing their messages of love.
