Holographic Makeup Is The New IRL Instagram Filter

Remember when highlighter was a thing? For some of us, highlighter is still a thing. Thanks, NikkieTutorials (who just recently got engaged, by the way).

You’d highlight your cheekbones, the tip of your nose and your cupid’s bow – all the glow in the right places.

If you’re a fan of highlighter, you’d love holographic makeup even more! It’s the new IRL Instagram filter, and according to SimplyNailogical’s words, it makes us feel “holosexual.”

What’s the deal with holographic makeup?

Holographic makeup is an ode to the 70s when people wore holographic clothing to make a fashion statement. Besides making you look out-of-this-world, holographic makeup is designed for the music festival season. It gives you an edge without you having to put in so much effort just to be unicorn-like.

Holographic – more than just the glitter

When we were growing up, glittery stuff was the source of joy and amazement. Little did we know that these sparkles can go beyond childhood joy and manifest as makeup looks in our adult lives. Glitter also soothes us – perhaps bringing back good memories from our childhood, which is why some of us enjoy watching glitter pour videos. So relaxing!

Holosexuals exist – they’re people who are in love with holographic glitter or anything holo

YouTuber Cristine a.k.a. SimplyNailogical first coined the term to express her undying love for all things holo. If you’re mesmerised by all things sparkly and holographic (but who isn’t?) you’re probably a holosexual, and you can possibly find other holosexuals in your circle of friends too. They’re the ones that point and go ‘wow!’ at anything particularly glittery.
