31-year-old actress Hayden Pennettier is taking back her life and “coming forward with the truth” after reports that a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend has now evolved into him being arrested and charged with an eight-count criminal complaint. Her ex-boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, being held on a series of alleged instances of abusive behaviour spanning May 2019 to January 2020.

Taking to her official Instagram account, the ‘Heroes’ alum posted a statement saying,

I am coming forward with the truth about what happened to me with the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve. I am prepared to do my part to make sure this man never hurts anyone again. I’m grateful for my support system, which helped me find the courage to regain my voice and my life.”

Hickerson, a 31-year-old real estate agent turned aspiring actor, and Panettiere was first linked back in 2018. This was not long after Panettiere ended her 9-year relationship with boxer and then-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko. The pair made their first public appearance at the Arclight Theatre in July 2018. Since then, their relationship has been a turbulent one, with multiple allegations of Panettiere’s assault at the hands of Hickerson. In May 2019, he was arrested for felony domestic violence. A protective order was issued, but later dropped and the case was eventually dismissed as Panettiere and Hickerson reportedly reunited. And only recently, on Valentine’s Day, Hickerson was arrested after police were called to their home after receiving a call about an “intoxicated male locked out of the home because he punched his girlfriend in the face”. According to TMZ, Pannetierre was heard saying “he beat the f*** out of me”, appearing with a red, swollen face and with a scrape and swelling on her left hand.

On Thursday, Hickerson was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department. According to a source that spoke to PEOPLE,

Brian Hickerson was charged last night in an 8-count felony complaint alleging domestic violence and assault. Hayden reported to the Teton County Sheriff in Wyoming, the LAPD and the Santa Monica PD with multiple serious instances of extreme domestic violence perpetuated by [Hickerson] against Hayden during their year-and-a-half relationship.”

Four of the felony counts are defined as ‘injury to a spouse/co-habitant’, and two are for assault with a deadly weapon. The deadly weapons were defined as ‘a garage floor’ and ‘stairs’, according to the complaint. He also was charged with one count of misdemeanour battery on a spouse/co-habitant. He is also being charged with trying to “dissuade a witness from prosecuting a crime”. Apparently, Hickerson tried to stop Pannettiere from “causing a complaint, indictment, information, probation and parole violating to be sought and prosecuted and assisting in the prosecution thereof”.

Panettiere’s attorney Alan Jackson issued the following statement:

After suffering for years as the victim of psychological, emotional and severe physical abuse, Hayden Panettiere has begun the process of taking back her life. Hayden has found the strength and courage to share the truth about her abuse and her abuser, and she intends to assist the prosecution to see that justice is served. As a survivor, she recognizes that her arduous journey of healing has just begun.”

As of now, Hickerson’s bail is set at $320,000 (RM1,364,000), with a preliminary hearing set for July 30. In her post, the Nashville’ actress also included  the phone number for a support line for “anyone affected by abuse and needing support.”
