Deodorant Could Be The Best Makeup Primer Alternative

We can all be pretty cheapskates at times – it’s an Asian thing to do!

Let’s face it, how many of us are willing to spend hundreds on makeup items that you barely know how to use? Take primer, for example. Is this creamy liquid even necessary? If you’re a beauty newbie who wonders about what a primer actually does and whether it is the same as a moisturiser, fret not, because we’ve got you covered.

Okay, so a makeup primer is basically a base for your foundation or face makeup that allows products to go on smoother and last longer. There are tons of formulas available for you to choose from like cream, gel and powder.

Moisturiser vs primer

According to celebrity makeup artist Stephen Dimmick, while moisturiser softens the skin, primer prepares the skin for foundation and helps to hold on to it so it lasts throughout the day. You often see internet beauty junkies applying primer every time they do a makeup tutorial.

However, if you’re not keen on spending money for a good primer since you don’t wear heavy makeup everyday, here some inexpensive and weird alternatives that you can opt for:

1. Aloe Vera Gel

Great to use as long as you don’t have oily skin. Aloe Vera has moisturising and soothing properties, plus it’s anti-microbial benefit helps to kill bacteria and prevent pimples. Meanwhile, the Vitamin C & E properties keep your skin hydrated. Just apply the gel on your face with a cotton ball or fingers for that instant soothing sensation. You can even keep it in the fridge for that extra cooling feel. Try these aloe gels, The Face Shop Jeju Aloe Fresh Soothing GelAloe Revital Soothing Gel

2.

Weird, we know! While this silicone based gel is used to help relieve body chaffing, it is apparently the same base with a famous branded primer. Because it is silicone based, you’ll get that silky smooth feel to your skin which will also help to fill fine lines and pores, so your foundation can blend easily. Try the

3.

No primer, no worries, just steal yo’ man’s post shave balm! This was first started by NikkieTutorials back in 2015 which is crazily weird but tons of women swear by it. Sure, it sort of smells like men but the scent doesn’t last long. Apply a small amount and rub it in like a moisturiser. The liquid will start to become sticky but that’s totally normal. The stickiness helps the foundation to stick on your skin, much like a makeup glue!

What’s more, it’ll also help to smooth over dry and flaky bits because of its moisturising ingredients like glycerin. The Nivea Post Shave Balm is available at your nearest pharmacy.

4. Lube

Don’t be shocked, but even Huda Kattan uses lube as a primer — KY Jelly, specifically. Upon application, you’ll find your skin super smooth and lubricated. But once you rub the lube on your skin, it’ll be stickier than post shave balm which can make your foundation stick onto the skin.

5. Deodorant

Deodorant & bio oil?! Before any accusations this is a brand new deodorant I bought 😊 Putting a stick of deodorant on your face may sound ridiculous, but the powdery ingredients can help mattify the face. Also, some natural deodorants include mineral salts that can help dry out zits and bacteria-fighting ingredients that can also curb breakouts. Bio oil- helps diminish the appearance of scars and also helps even out skin tone @clinique 2-1 foundation shade buttermilk @lagirlcosmetics beautiful bronze to contour classic ivory & porcelain mixed for concealer and highlight @benefitcosmetics hola bronzer @anastasiabeverlyhills glow kit that glow @urbandecaycosmetics naked lip pencil & back talk lipstick from there new vice lipstick & liner collection @hudabeauty & @shophudabeauty lashes in Carmen

WEIRD AF but celebrity makeup artists actually use fragrance-free deodorants for their clients’ faces. Apparently, it is able to make their makeup last longer for the red-carpet. Just be sure to try this out by using a natural deodorant that’s aluminium-free formula.
