Big Sean Admits to Regretting Making “I Don’t F*** With You” Following Ex Naya Rivera’s Tragic Death
If you made your rounds in clubs in 2014, you would have heard the banger (that is both a bop and an angry, profinaty laced song) that is Big Sean’s “I Dont F*** With You”. Released in 2014 as the lead single from his third studio album ‘Dark Sky Paradise’, the song ended up going triple platinum on the charts. However, with the controversial lyrics…
I don’t f*** with you
You little s***** a** b***, I ain’t f*****’ with you
… and the time of th release, many assumed that the song was about late actress Naya Rivera. Big Sean has spoken about the song, denying that everything but the last verse had been about their breakup. In an itnerview with Complex, Big Sean said that he had written the last verse and [the line] ‘and everyday I wake up celebrating shit, why? ‘Cause I just dodged a bullet from a crazy bitch,’” about the breakup with Rivera, before reiterating that the song “did not come from a bitter place at all”.
The pair started dating back in 2013, after exchanging messages on Twitter. Naya once told Access Hollywood in 2013:
“I had followed him, and he sent me a little message like, ‘I’m a fan’. We went to dinner and the rest is history.”
However, their romance didn’t last for long. Despite getting engaged in October that year, Big Sean (whose real name is Sean Anderson) ultimately called off the engagement. The end of their relationship was not a smooth one, amidst rumours that Big Sean had cheated on Rivera as well as reports that the couple would often get into heated, sometimes violent, argumenents. With that being said, many linked his song to her as it depicts how Sean “dodged a bullet from a crazy b****”.
In a recent interview with Variety, Big Sean was asked if he regrets making his hit song “IDFWU” as it is said to be about the late actress. With her loss, being quite recent, he answered:
I don’t feel comfortable talking about it because I want to respect her. She’s made such an impact on people, and she’s done so many great things in her life and her career that it was hurtful to even have that [song] be associated with her. It wasn’t a diss to her. I truly made the song and played it for her. She knew about it, and she liked it. We had a breakup that was very public, and we were young and we forgave each other and moved on from that. If I would have known something this tragic would have happened, I would have never made the song.”

Rest In Peace Naya, God Bless your Soul! Thank you for blessing us all with your talent and presence. you are a hero! Not just because of how you saved your son, also because of the barriers you knocked down for so many people to make them feel confident in themselves and to stand tall and be proud when they couldn’t achieve that on their own. I appreciate and cherish everything that ever happened between us for making me wiser and a better person. I’m still grieving and in shock, I can’t believe this is real. I’m praying for you and your family and I know your watching over them and protecting them. Rest In Peace Naya 💙🙏🏾
Rivera had been declared missing for 5 days while out on a boating trip with her 4-year-old son back in July of this year. According to her son, Josey, his mother had managed to get him back on the boat before he “saw her disappear under surface of water”. Unfortunately, after almost a week, Rivera’s body was found floating near the surafce of the lake. Officials believed that she got tangled in the plants in and aroudn the lake, thus concealing her from divers and search and rescue teams. Thakfully, her son Josey was found unharmed and is now currently with his father. Following the reports of the events that led up to her death, Rivera has been hailed a hero for her ability to muster enough strenth to get her son back to safety.
Big Sean’s dedicated a post on Instagram to his ex, sharing a picture of the beautiful actress alongside the caption:
