Travelodge conducted a study with over 2,000 hotels to determine the colours that help or hurt sleep. Even the paint texture can affect your sleep – always choose flat finish over glossy, as it’s softer compared to the other and softer means sleepier.
White and neutral tones are a little too plain for you. But choosing the colour of your room can affect you in so many ways like your mood and sleep. That’s why it’s so important for you to choose the right colour. Here are the best and worst colours for bedrooms.
The best colours for sleep
You probably already know this but blue is a calming colour. Fun fact, the eyes have special receptors in the retinas called ganglion cells, which makes the brain receptive to blue. That’s probably why you feel relax!
According to Travelodge, guests with a blue room slept approximately 7 hours and 52 minutes of uninterrupted sleep and woke up feeling happy. When in doubt, choose blue!
Surprise, yellow is apparently great for sleep too! Travelodge found that participants received 7 hours and 40 minutes of sleep. Need some sunshine in your life, paint yellow!
The colour nature is obviously a great colour to decorate our walls with! Participants recorded 7 hours and 36 minutes of sleep. They also woke up feeling upbeat and positive. Add some personal touch by decorating your space with REAL greens!
While it is a unique colour, it’s apparently conducive for sleep. People who slept in the silver room got 7 hours and 33 minutes of sleep. If you prefer neutral colours, this is a great pick!
This is a big shocker but sleepers in an orange enjoyed a good night sleep of 7 hours and 28 minutes. The warm and happy colour is said to also help with indigestion, which could be the reason you’re up at night!
The worst colours for your bedroom
What a nightmare! Guests only received 5 hours and 56 minutes of sleep. Hands down, the worst colour for sleep! In fact, purple is a mentally stimulating colour, so it keeps the mind awake. Stay away if you can!
Dull and gloomy. Nothing about this colour makes you excited for sleep and it actually increases restlessness. Brown = Morning frown!
Red stands for danger. It’s a passionate and energetic colour which increases your blood pressure and makes you active. Something that you definitely don’t want right before sleep. Save the red paint for the red room!
