Avoid Nasty Hangovers By Eating Right Before You Party Hard

It’s the weekend, you’re so done with work and all you want to do is to go out partying. No regrets.. or so you thought till’ you wake up the next day feeling like crap. Your head feels heavy, the room seems to be spinning and the worst part is, your body is experiencing a nasty mixture of being hungry and on the verge of puking.  

Then it hits you — sipping on cocktails, drinking almost a bottle of champagne courtesy of that cute guy who’ve been flirting with you from across the room, oh and what about those shots from your girlfriends?

Yeap, we’ve all been there. But you don’t have to feel this way anymore! It is possible for you to beat the hangover, and we’ll tell you how:

Prepare yourself for the night out with a good diet

According to registered dietitian Jessica Cording, a person’s diet can affect their hangovers in a big way. Thus, it’s important to prepare your night out with a balanced meal beforehand.

“If you know your evening plans involve alcohol, I always encourage [people] to front-load their day with plenty of nutrient-rich foods, like fruits and veggies, and to eat balanced, high-protein meals and snacks to help keep blood sugar and energy stable,” Cording said.

“I know it’s tempting to want to ‘save’ calories, but showing up starving and throwing booze on the hangry fire is not a recipe for a good time. You’re more likely to wind up feeling crummy and having a hard time making clear-headed choices about food and, you know, life stuff.”

Basically, don’t drink booze on an empty tummy because consuming all of that liquor or beer will make it even gassier, which may result in a nasty hangover. 

What you should take?

Cording recommends drinking a smoothie or eating a Greek yogurt with fruits. You can also eat food like whole grain or sweet potato toast with nut butter, a banana with nut butter, veggie soup with any type of protein like chicken.

In fact, the dietician suggests eating food that will help replenish the vitamins and electrolytes your body so desperately craves.

However, if you’re in a rush and couldn’t find any healthy food options, Nasi Lemak or anything filling would be an acceptable choice. And if like me, you can’t resist from munching while drinking, sneak in a few fries just to satisfy your cravings!

Stay away from grease and sugar

Having said that, you should also avoid super sugary food like donuts, since that can cause your blood sugar to skyrocket which could make you feel sick to your stomach, faint, or throw up. Ugh, nobody got time for that.

So remember guys, if your tummy growls, it is a sign that it needs to be fed — whether it’s before, during or after a long night of drinking. And if you’re just like me, sneak in a few fries during drinks in case you get hungry again.

I guess it all depends on how you feed your body and if you’re just like me, I might sneak in a few fries just to satisfy my cravings during drinks.
