5 Ways To Grow As A Person In 2019

With 2018 closed behind, 2019 is a year to look forward to. But with so many of us making New Year resolutions, fewer than 10% of us actually manage to stick to them for even an entire month. The problem isn’t the resolution, but the way we approach the resolution. It’s the small, every day things that make the big picture a reality! Here are some habits that will carry you through 2019 and make sure you reach your goals.

1. Be realistic

The most important thing about setting goals is to be realistic about them. Everyone has an achievement they want to achieve in life but it’s easy to get discouraged when you don’t meet your own expectations. First, consider what you want to achieve and give yourself time to commit to it. For example, if you want to lose weight, it’s easy to just say you’ll exercise every day but actually doing it? That’s another story.

Start small. Get yourself used to the routine before having such big expectations. This way, you’re less likely to be demotivated and give up on your goal!

2. Be patient

Unknowingly, patience is linked with good mental and physical health. In a 2012 study by Schnitker, people who are more patient tend to be more hopeful and satisfied with their lives. By being patient, it means that you’re willing to accept the hardships life has thrown at you without frustration or despair. In a way, it evokes a sense of optimism that one bad day doesn’t mean that life is ultimately bad.

Not only will you be in a good state of mental health, but you’ll also be someone who’s pleasant to be with. As most patient people are also revealed to be selfless in nature, you’ll be making not just yourself, but another people feel happy with your deeds.

3. Stop making excuses

As humans, we’re bound to make excuses to avoid doing things we don’t like. We’re good at making up scenarios that prevent us from doing things we need to do.

“I’ll start tomorrow,” is a phrase people often say, but say it often enough and that ‘tomorrow’ will never happen. Excuses are the main reason why people are unable to accomplish what they want in life. That’s why it’s important that when you make a commitment, you stick with it to the very end. Sure, it’s hard and tiring but the reward at the end of the tunnel makes it worth it.

You’ll also make yourself happier at the end of it! Being able to achieve something will motivate you to do more and soar higher!

4. Be disciplined

The next step after throwing away any excuses is to be disciplined. Self-discipline gives you the power to stick with your decision and see it through. Self-discipline is like a muscle. The more you work it, the stronger it gets and the easier it is to get persevere when things get hard.

Start small! Even if it’s something like going to bed at 10PM every night and waking up at 6AM every morning. It may sound easy, but for many people they don’t even wake up before 10AM.

5. Be brave

Like most people, we fear rejection and failure. Fearing the possibilities the future has is a normal thing. But the hardest part about it is being able to overcome this fear. Often, fear is what keeps us from going forward and taking the risks that would prove to be beneficial. People grow from experiences and even if you get rejected or fail, take it as a stepping stone as each experience will prepare you for the next.
