5 Artsy Hobbies To Keep You Calm During Ramadan

Ramadan can be a pretty dramatic month. The traffic jam in the city during the rush hour is enough to make any fasting city-dweller go crazy.

If you’re feeling extra stressed during the fasting month, you probably need somewhere to channel all that tension too, and watching Netflix just doesn’t cut it.

Here are a few artsy hobbies you can take up this month to keep calm and grounded. Most of them involve making pretty things, which will make you pretty on the inside out!

1. Knitting & crochet

There’s just something so satisfying about creating a work of art from scratch. With knitting and crochet alike, when you have the right tools and a ball of yarn, you can create clothes, toys and even cosy blankets for babies. If you think this is a grandma hobby, think again! Knitters have created toys, bralettes and festival outfits for fun!

2. Journalling

If you’ve ever been to mental health therapy, one of the recommendations would be to journal your thoughts into a notebook. Therapists aren’t prying into your thoughts or whatever because studies actually show that journalling reduces stress and anxiety. So get a pretty notebook, pick up a fountain pen, and journal away!

3. Yoga

Namaste. Yoga is probably one of the few forms of exercise that doesn’t get your heart racing (figuratively). All that stretching, strength work, and meditation would calm you down after a long day. If it’s the first thing you do in the morning, you’ll feel pretty zen the whole day. It’s not an easy form of exercise but if you need to wind down, a couple of breathing exercises and sun salutations should do the trick!

4. Gardening

The colour green is supposed to make you feel calm right away, probably because it’s associated with Mother Nature. Even if you don’t have green fingers, house plants could probably cleanse the air around your home. If you really can’t plant a whole garden, start with cacti and move on to herbs, and then try a hand at growing flowers.

5. Calligraphy

You’ve seen it all over Instagram and you could probably try a hand at it. it’s probably a nice change to have pretty handwriting for once. You may have to go for classes or try to teach yourself through YouTube videos to get it just right. Soon, you’ll be able to leave pretty notes at your BFF’s home to cheer her up!
